THE SIN OF HOMOSEXUALITY
INTRODUCTION
A. In today’s society we see & hear things previous generations did not. In today’s society we are forced to address issues that are disgusting & embarrassing.
B. One of these issues is homosexuality. The American Heritage Dictionary defines homosexuality as, “sexual activity with another of the same sex.”
C. The word “homosexual” has had a stigma attached to it, so they highjack the pleasant and innocent word “gay” and used it to label themselves. There is nothing gay about homosexuality. It is a degenerate lifestyle. They also use the words “alternate lifestyle” & those against it are accused of being hate mongers & of suffering from homophobia.
D. The practice & acceptance of homosexuality reveals a society that has rejected God (Rom.1:24-32). The practice & acceptance of homosexuality are evidence, not of a society out of God’s control, but of a society under God’s judgment! One of the consequences of a society that rejects God is to live in the amoral cesspool such rejection produces (2Pet.2:7).
E. Homosexuality has brought the world the following:
a. breakdown of wholesome family values (College of American Pediatricians denounced it)
b. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
c. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) average lifespan 35.2 with AIDS & 42 without)
F. Infamous dates in the fight of so-called “gay rights”:
a. June 2003 U.S. Supreme Court eliminated state sodomy laws (reversal of 1986 ruling)
b. May 17, 2004 Massachusetts gave homosexuals the right to marry
c. March 7, 2004 V. Gene Robinson (homosexual) ordained 9th bishop of New Hampshire Episcopal Church
d. 5 of the major denominations “ordain” homosexuals & recognize “same-sex marriages”
A. “They know God’s law says that those who live like this should die. But they themselves not only continue to do these evil things, they applaud others who do them” (Rom.1:32 NCB).
B. NKJV - “approve of those who practice them.” “approve” translates a compound Greek word that means, “to think well of in common, that is, assent, to applaud.” (Democratic convention parties applauding majors who preformed same-sex marriages)
C. Sympathizers of Homosexuals are:
a. Hollywood (some producers & actors/actresses portray homosexuals favorably & those who denounce homosexuality unfavorably)
b. liberal media (portrays homosexuals as misunderstood, discriminated against, civil rights violated)
c. liberal politicians support it (even some conservatives e.g. Dick Chaney)
d. liberal judges who re-write the Constitution (“We declare that barring an individual from the protections, benefits, & obligations of civil marriage solely because that person would marry a person of the same sex violates the Massachusetts Constitution,” Chief Justice Margaret Marshall)
e. certain businesses
f. liberal preachers (debate between Wayne Jackson & Methodist preacher) - discuss attempt to explain away obvious passages condemning homosexuality
g. misguided young minds (young man’s letter to the editor & textbooks in school)
A. It is unnatural (Gen.1:27; Rom.1:26,27) - biologically wrong – animals don’t behave against nature. Male-female order meet the 3 essential criteria God arranged:
a. good not to be alone (Gen.2:18)
b. helper (Gen.2:18,20)
c. perpetuation of the human race (Gen.1:28)
B. It is uncivilized (civilized – “showing evidence of moral & intellectual advancement)
C. It is unethical (ethical – “being in accordance with the accepted principles of right & wrong that govern the conduct of a profession”)
a. what is moral is not determined by what one can get away with, what is necessarily legal, or what the majority thinks, but what God says
b. God is the basis for all morality
D. It is unbiblical (Gen.19:6-13; Lev.18:22; Judg.19:22; 1Kgs.14:24; Rom.1:26,27; 1Cor.6:9; 2Pet.2:6; Jude v7)
III. HOMOSEXUALITY IS A LEARNED BEHAVIOR THAT MUST BE UNLEARNED
A. Some homosexuals & some of their sympathizers attempt to justify homosexuality by claiming it is an inherent trait (gene) found in people who are homosexuals.
B. Such is not true. The popular sex therapists, Masters & Johnson, did an extensive study of homosexuality & concluded it is a learned behavior.
C. God did not make anyone homosexual no more then he made anyone a drunk. Discuss ramifications of genetics justification (justice system will collapse as attorneys argue gene responsible, not the individual)
D. Parents don’t mode your children so that they will be on the path to homosexuality.
E. Good News! - Homosexuals can repent & be forgiven (1Cor.6:9-11).
IV. HOW CHRISTIANS MUST RESPOND TO THE HOMOSEXUAL ISSUE
A. Not with violence (Rom.12:21).
B. Our response:
a. pray for homosexuals to repent; that citizens will select lawmakers & judges that place morality above economics
b. contact present lawmakers
c. don’t be silent (2Cor.10:5)
d. do right regardless if “same-sex marriage” becomes legalized (In Sweden it is against the law to publicly denounce homosexuality & a preacher has been jailed.)
The practice & acceptance of homosexuality reveals a society that has rejected God. Homosexuals have their sympathizers. Homosexuality is wrong because it is unnatural, uncivilized, unethical, & unbiblical. It is a learned behavior that must be unlearned. Christians must make a response to homosexuality, not with violence, but with prayer, with our influence in the election, & with loyalty to God (Prov.14:34).
